Envision “Templo Armonía” Bamboo Shala, Uvita, CRC
An epic shala and ecstatic dance-floor made out of bamboo and wood in the popular Envision Festival on 2019. Our first large scale project participation and intense build in the Osa Peninsula jungle with Gerard Minakawa and the Bamboo DNA Team.
Sol Center Bamboo Shala, Pavones, CRC
With bamboo that was planted 14 years before, harvested and treated on the farm build location. A turtle shape structure made out of Stone, Bamboo & Wood in a pristine location. Participation and build with the Bamboo DNA team of the structure designed by Gerard Minakawa and Adrian Carroll. Lead Build on the roofing wood substructure for the fake palm install and the wood and bamboo layout for the earthen floor by Hans Hernández M. from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team.
Labyrinto Bamboo Stage 22, Nosara, CRC
A bamboo maze with a path to get lost and different alters within. With a front side installation of approximate 250 hanging bamboos that where projected with visuals and lights to hold space for international DJs and create a Human Experience for New Years 2021-2022 with Hans Hernández M. and the Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team in the Nicoya Peninsula.
Peace Park Bamboo Pavilion, St.Luis, MO, USA
A 400 Bamboo Splits Installation to reactivate The Peace Park in Northern St. Luis as part of a hole renovation plan to restore community and bring innovative materials, inspiration and regeneration. The structure was a collaboration of graduate and undergraduate students and Architects of the Sam Fox Architecture School from Washington University in St. Luis. Designed by Wyly Brown and Students from WashU with Bamboo Sourcing, Splits Fabrication, Structure Build and Workshop led by Hans Hernandez M. from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team.
Labyrinto Bamboo Stage 23, Nosara, CRC
600 Asper Bamboo Splits weaved together to create Chantarelle and Porcini Mushroom shaped structures with hanging fabric creating a Human Experience for Mushroom Grounds Bamboo Stage at Labyrinto New Year Music Festival 2022-2023. Bamboo Design, Sourcing and Build by Hans Hernandez M. and the Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team.
Envision 2023 Bamboo Earth Temple, Uvita, CRC
Evolutionary Art-chitecture. Beautiful and Simple Bamboo Structure, with Re-purposed light towers creating a safe environment to enjoy ceremonies and meditate with a refreshing Black Bamboo Fountain in the middle. Colaborative effort through different departments to build one of the most Meaningful, Powerful and Grounding Bamboo structures on site during Envision Festival 2023. Design Concept and Structural Build by Leo Grasso, co-led with Hans Hernández M. from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera.
Jungle Dreaming 2023 Bamboo Stage, Jacó, CRC
Simple Bamboo structure with a Ti-Pi design concept to hold space for International Djs. Bamboo poles cut in half for predominance and ease of projection for video mapping. Design and Structural Build by Hans Hernández M. and the Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team.
Bamboo Truss Build/Test with WashU & ITCR, Cartago, CRC
Architecture Students from the University of Washington in MO visited Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica with Arq. Wyly Brown to join forces with Hans Hernández M. and Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team for the fabrication of Bamboo Trusses for warehouse building purposes with different lashing techniques and joinery to test and investigate behaviors for potential mass production. Several pieces were fabricated to be tested on weight creating information and papers in Costa Rica to open the Bamboo market and spread the use of bamboo as a regenerative natural building material.
Bamboo Monkey House, SJO, CRC
2 week-build 2.5 Story Simple Bamboo structure with Tools Lock-Box, Storage, Simple Kitchen, 2 Private Rooms, Multi Purpose Deck, Private Loft, Outhouse and a future climbing wall to start hosting volunteers workers, friends and family on Finca Don Evelio in Ciudad Colón, Mora, San José. 9m Dendrocalamus Asper Poles firmly buried on sand and rock filled metal drums with guadua double beams and rafters create the first structure on our farm with Phyllostachy Aurea walls, sun and rain protection courtains. Design and Structural Build by Hans Hernández M. and the Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team.
Envision Festival Site Management, Uvita, CRC
Aproximate 150 Bamboo Structures spread accross 5 hectars of tropical jungle that host the famous Envision Festival grounds were managed, maintained, sprayed for bug mediation and treated with post construction techniques to extend the longevity of them and start with a sustainable and regenerative program for future off season use, led by Hans Hernández from the Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team with the help and support of local contractors and teams.
Finca Don Evelio Management, SJO, CRC
4.5 hectars of tropical jungle and farm land inherited to the Matamoros family in the beautiful small town of Ciudad Colón de Mora. 25 min away from the international Airport makes it a nice place for visitors to inmerse in the jungle in the convinience of the capital city. In the process of being a Regenerated land including 5 different varieties of Bamboo forests, a dragon fruit plantation and a variety of fruit trees and edible gardens to nurture and host bamboo natural building, holistic nutrition, resilence, regeneration and the simple Pura Vida life style with retreats, workshops and community engament led by visionary Hans Hernández M. from the Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team with the help and support of local familias and conscious community in the making.
Envision Art Gallery Bamboo Post-Construction Treatment, Uvita, CRC
A beautiful Bamboo structure and important investment built for Envision Festival 2023 with untreated bamboo. The process consisted on drilling small holes on each bamboo node of the entire bamboo structure to fill with treatment solution, cleaning, sanding and oiling with protective layers to ensure the longevity of the Bamboo Structure and protection of investment led by Hans Hernández from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team and support of local contractors.
El Coco Bamboo Shala, San Juan del Sur, NIC
A unique Bamboo structure in the area, using parametric design by Arq. Wyly Brown. Material sourced localy and treated on site. Two reciprocal towers and interconnected bamboo asper poles with a shining local teak floor overlooking the beautiful private beach of El Coco in San Juan del Sur creates a beautiful multi purpose space for various gatherings. Structural Build led by Hans Hernández from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team and support of local workers, bamboo enthusiasts and volunteers from several parts of the world and local contractors.
Envision Festival 2024 Structural Build General Management, Uvita, CRC
Beginning with a hybrid structure using Bamboo Asper columns, structural metal for span and repurpose material, refurbished containers, concrete footings and Guadua Bamboo poles for rafters in the roof created an amazing coworking space for all utility teams and the best building operation of all Envision Festival history. Continued by several different treated bamboo structures and usable spaces for attendees, managers, interns and volunteers from all over the world to live, share, dance, enjoy and learn together in the jungle of Costa Rica. Led by Hans Hernández M. from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team with support of local contractors, organizations, artists, builders, interns and volunteers from around the globe.
Envision Festival 2024 Lapa Stage Structural Build, Uvita, CRC
5 Different levels and platforms, including a back stage dance floor, side stage performance platforms, common area and downstairs green rooms, made with treated guadua bamboo poles creates a bigger and multi layered space for the new Lapa Structure at Envision Festival 2024. Structural Build led by Hans Hernández M. from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team with support of local contractors and builders.
Envision Festival 2024 Wine & Tapas Bar, Uvita, CRC
Simple but jawdroping reciprocal treated bamboo rafters creating a free standing roof structure 8m x 8m to host the open space for the new Wine and Tapas bar at Envision Festival 2024. Structural Build led by Hans Hernández M. from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team with support of local contractors and builders.
Bamboo Treatment Operation, Uvita, CRC
Sourcing, Harvesting, Cleaning, Drilling, Submerging, Drying, Coordinating, Scheduling, and Managing of 7000 Guadua and Asper Bamboo poles treated on site for several structure builds for different teams at Envision Festival 2024. Led by Hans Hernández M. from Piedra, Bamboo & Madera team with support of local suppliers, contractors and builders.
